We got a four-month old German Shepherd puppy who had absolutely no socialization at all until we got her. She has a very fearful personality and is very nervous around other dogs, people and kids. She snarled and growled at the first dog she met when we took her for a walk and even growled at a man walking by! I have had lots of dogs and even other Shepherds and I was very concerned at her behavior because a scared Shepherd is a dangerous dog.
I tried some training using treats but my dog was so fixated on everything around her that she was not interested at all in taking treats, so the "treat method" wasn't going to work for her. I looked at several training programs and my vet highly recommended Got Sit. We just finished our last private lesson and Zara is doing amazing!! We took her to a very busy park today and she was heeling and coming despite lots of distractions, like kids crashing down slides near her, scooters and bikes whizzing by, lots of young kids screaming and running, soccer games going on, etc.
We also encountered LOTS of other dogs and while she occasionally barked at (only some) dogs and only for a brief moment, I was able to quickly redirect her to keep her focus on me and within a few minutes, we were able to walk by these dogs calmly and in total control. I felt like a total boss! I can't wait to start the group classes and am feeling so confident with her now!
I have also been able to have her off leash and heeling really well in our yard and I know soon I'll be able to do that in public. Her recall is almost 100% already! She's 8 months old now and we started the training when she was 6 months.
This training is very simple to learn, no fancy commands or treats, and it works. It took consistent practice but it just clicked one day and she's on her way to becoming the dog of our dreams!! Thank YOU!
